2023 1450mm FMS F4U-4 Corsair Version 3 in Navy Blue Color Scheme

History:

The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War. Demand for the aircraft soon overwhelmed Vought's manufacturing capability, resulting in production by Goodyear and Brewster: Goodyear-built Corsairs were designated FG and Brewster-built aircraft F3A. From the first prototype delivery to the U.S. Navy in 1940, to final delivery in 1953 to the French, 12,571 F4U Corsairs were manufactured by Vought, in 16 separate models, it is the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in U.S. history (1942-1953). The Corsair served in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, Fleet Air Arm and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, as well as the French Navy ©ronavale and other, smaller air forces until the 1960s. It quickly became the most capable carrier-based fighter-bomber of World War II. Some Japanese pilots regarded it as the most formidable American fighter of World War II, and the U.S. Navy counted an 11:1 kill ratio with the F4U Corsair. As well as being an outstanding fighter, the Corsair proved to be an excellent fighter-bomber, serving almost exclusively in the latter role throughout the Korean War and during the French colonial wars in Indochina and Algeria.

Description:

  • Superior FMS designed rotating retracts with complete metal trunnions, metal jack screw, metal stops on either side of the retract, and a thick and rugged plastic housing
  • 17g metal gear servos for ailerons, elevator, rudder, and flaps
  • 9g digital metal gear servos for the landing gear doors
  • 6 second sequencer for slower more scale landing gear operation
  • New 70A ESC with 5A SBEC

This FMS Corsair V3 is a huge upgrade over the prior version. This version includes upgrades such as triple flaps, landing lights, and a much larger battery compartment. This is one of the best looking most detailed Corsair models we've found. The new retracts are a HUGE improvement over the old version of the retract. This set has complete metal trunnions, metal jack screw, metal stops on either side of the retract, and a thick and rugged plastic housing. These will not collapse. The micro switch is under the jack screw and trunnion as opposed to the old design where a hard landing could break the micro switch. This design includes channels to stop the trunnion from moving so it physically cannot collapse during a hard landing. We find these retracts to be a HUGE improvement over the old retracts. These retracts also operate at 1/2 the speed of the prior version so they open and close at a much more scale speed (about 6 seconds to open, 6 seconds to close). There is plenty of power from the upgraded motor in this FMS Corsair. We find the stock landing gear is up to the task of a grass field but Dave Brown tires are a nice upgrade for extra shock absorption.

What are the upgrades and differences between the 1400mm FMS Corsair V2 and 1400mm FMS Corsair V3

The first thing FMS did was enlarge the Corsair V3 battery hatch to make access much easier for many different LiPo battery sizes. The FMS Corsair V3 also now has scale 3 panel operational flaps which did not exist on the V2. V3 also has navigation and landing lights which were not present on V2. In addition FMS really enhanced the scale details on the FMS Corsair V3. This includes little details such as an aerial mast and antenna in addition to large details like a scale full width horizontal stabilizer. The FMS Corsair V3 also has a massively improved prop nut with a metal threaded insert as opposed to the all plastic in the version 2. The new V3 cowl is much improved. It is made of tough plastic and can easily be removed for servicing or upgrading the motor. The new tail wheel on the FMS Corsair Version 3 is not only much more detailed but it is also driven by the rudder servo. The V2 tail wheel was driven by its own servo which was prone to failure. This issue has been addressed and solved. The landing gear doors are now made of a thicker more resilient nylon while the old V2 doors were made of a thinner brittle plastic. Lastly the V3 includes scale rockets and drop tanks which are easy to add and removable if you want less drag or more scale.
